In order to encourage the mobility of the participants at the 36th CIHA Lyon 2024 Congress, calls for grants will be published regularly on this page.


Registration, travel and accommodation fees are the responsibility of the participants.

We invite you to get in touch with your institutions of affiliation to find out how to finance your participation in the Congress.


The Organising committee is stepping up their efforts to find support for the mobility of researchers.

Calls for specific grants

  • KHI Travel Grants for CIHA 2024

The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut is a research institute that engages in transcultural debates about the future of art history; from this perspective, the 36th CIHA Congress (Lyon, June 23–27, 2024) is a prime occasion for encounter and dialogue of scholars from all over the world. In collaboration with the conference, the KHI offers support to 10 early career researchers, to allow in person participation.

The KHI will cover travel costs, accommodation, and congress fees up to 1.600,00 € in total for each of the invited participants, depending on the place of residence.

Precedence will be given to researchers based in Central and South America, Africa, and the Asias.

The application should include a cover letter explaining the reasons for applying (including expectations, career benefits, and research interests), a short CV (max. one page), and the abstract of the presentation or session (if applicable).

  • Deutsche Forum für Kunstgeschichte in Paris (DFK Paris)

The Deutsche Forum für Kunstgeschichte in Paris (DFK Paris) is offering 10 travel grants for participation in the 36th CIHA Congress Lyon 2024.

The programme of the 36th CIHA Congress offers a unique opportunity for professional exchange at an international level, which the DFK Paris would like to support.

The call for proposals is aimed at researchers at German-speaking institutions who have already been accepted as speakers at the CIHA Congress or who are leading a section themselves and who have no other funding (own travel funds). Young scientists are especially encouraged to apply.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 10 February 2024 and add three to five sentences to your biography, preferably with an explanation of why you need the travel grant.

The grant includes reimbursement of travel costs (up to a maximum of €250) from your place of residence to the congress in Lyon, five nights' accommodation (up to max.
100€/night) on site and the congress fees. An accumulation of different travel grants is not possible.

  • Samuel H. Kress Foundation - History of Art Grants 

Special Mobility Grant for the 36th CIHA Congress (Lyon, France, 2024)

The Samuel H. Kress Foundation prioritizes grants for activities that permit art historians to share their expertise through international exchanges, conferences, symposia, research presentations and other professional events. Its History of Art Grants program supports scholarly projects that enhance the appreciation and understanding of European works of art and architecture from Antiquity to the early 19th century.

This Special Mobility Grant is intended to encourage the participation of junior researchers from US-American institutions at the 36th CIHA Congress to be held in Lyon (France), from June 23-28, 2024.
The Kress Grants are designed to enable 10 PhD students or young scholars from American institutions, whose proposal have been accepted for a session or a paper but for whom economic conditions are a hindrance, to fully participate in the five-day conference and benefit from conditions particularly favorable to their integration into the international scientific community.

The grants amount to $1,500 for each fellow, which should help cover travel, accommodation, and conference registration fees. The Congress organizers also intend to offer opportunities for exchanges and networking through specific meetings and gatherings.

  • TIQITAQ Grant

CIHA 2024 mobility grant (France):

The TIQITAQ Foundation offers mobility grants to young researchers in France, to enable them to participate in the 36th CIHA Congress in Lyon, from June 23rd to June 28th, 2024.

15 grants of €1,000 will be awarded to young researchers in France. These grants will enable the benefiters to take part in the five-day congress and informal meetings and visits organised by the TIQITAQ Foundation, with the aim of consolidating the exchanges made during the conference and building a network of professional relationships.

The TIQITAQ Foundation aims to empower people through access to knowledge and the acquisition of skills, knowledge, konw-how and interpersonal skills.

To achieve this, the Foundation gives priority to projects that combat all forms of social, family, cultural and territorial isolation. Commitment and innovation in education and training, and involvement in the development of both artistic creation and cultural practices, are at the heart of the initiatives supported. The Foundation aims to help build a society that is inclusive, supportive and aware of new environmental and technological challenges.

Applications may be submitted by people who have been selected to speak at the conference or by people wishing to attend the sessions on offer. The reasons for applying (expectations, impact, career benefits, scientific interest in attending the conference) should be explained in the form below.

CIHA 2024 international mobility grant :

The TIQITAQ Foundation offers mobility grants to young international scholars out of France to enable them to participate in the 36th CIHA Congress in Lyon (France) from June 23rd to June 28th, 2024.

The TIQITAQ grants will enable 7 international young researchers, for whom the financial conditions are an obstacle, to fully attend the conference. Grants amount to €2,000 for international benefiters. The benefiters will be welcomed at the beginning and at the end of the congress for an informal exchange to strengthen the exchanges made during the congress. A special visit program will also be dedicated to them by the Foundation.

  • Call for grant ACCES 2024

In order to encourage and intensify relations between French laboratories and those in Central and Eastern European countries, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France is launching the ACCES programme call for grants, the aim of which is to co-finance the hosting of researchers from Central and Eastern European countries at seminars, colloquia or conferences organised in France.

  • Getty-CIHA International Program

Getty-CIHA International Program invites participants from countries with emerging economies to attend the 36th CIHA Congress in Lyon, France, 23-28 June 2024

As the principle of such a congress is to make it possible to meet on site and to stimulate exchanges and the establishment of an international network of thought and work, it is essential to make such an event possible in person and to encourage the participation of researchers from economically less favored regions.

Getty funding will support 20 fellows whose proposal has been accepted for a paper or a panel and for whom the economic conditions represent an absolute constraint, to fully attend the conference and to benefit from particularly favorable conditions for their integration into the conference community. The grant covers transportation, accommodation and congress registration fees1. The organizers also wish to optimize the opportunities for meetings and exchanges through a dedicated program for the grantees.
